Brief

In the former home of the Toronto Stock Exchange in the city’s Financial District.
The two-storey, expansive 9,000-square-foot space includes a built-in mezzanine, private dining rooms and large terrace.
Black and Blues interior pays homage to the history of the building and is framed in rich wood paneling, marble flooring and banquette seating throughout.

Client Need

A sculptural and elegant light installation which would impact the lofty ceiling and restaurant scale, sitting above the cocktail bar, interpreted as a piece of art.
Given the multiple dining areas within the restaurant it was vital the installation be viewed and appreciated at multiple angles; at bar level, viewing the inside gold frames of the circular mesh sculptures, to viewing the blue mesh sides and movement in the structure at mezzanine level.

Challenge

The lighting installation involved suspending multiple heavy custom mesh pendants, each requiring individual suspension with cable.

Solution

Ultimately the individual suspension provided a solution to allow for adjustments in height at the time of installation and potential
maintenance at a later date. The ceiling above was reinforced 2 x static weight. VISO selected a blue powder coated finish
promoting extended durability and limiting exhaustive cleaning and maintenance.

Dimensions

Total weight of 3500lbs distributed among 7 hanging fixtures.
Aircraft cable 3mm (1/8") diameter with a minimum safe working load (SWL) of 400lbs.
Each fixture has a minimum of 4 cables evenly spread out.
