“Refraction” Adorns The Lobby of AQUABELLA Condos
VISO Inc., an award-winning decorative lighting design-engineering and fabrication company, is proud to add “Refraction” to its portfolio of impressive lighting installations and immersive experiences. Designed by Dan Menchions of II BY IV DESIGN, “Refraction” is a first of a kind installation and a truly international endeavour.
The stunning installation art proudly adorns the lobby of Aquabella, a new-build luxury Condominium, a part of the largest waterfront redevelopment in North America by Tridel and Hines. The colourful structure was designed and commissioned in Toronto and manufactured in Germany and Portugal. The design intent is anchored by the sun and how it reflects through the water to create a prismatic kaleidoscope of color. “This reflection shows the connectivity to the waterfront, to its residents and guests”, states Dan, “…what could have been a potentially impossible piece to fabricate, was made a reality by VISO and their understanding of material, engineering and fabrication.”
Innovative engineering and cutting-edge fabrication techniques were used to make the sixteen multicolour, 40-foot acrylic pillars, infused with different coloured film and secured by a 4” thick Nero Marquina stone. “The sheer size of extruded acrylic required to achieve the design intent, presented many challenges, for, extruding acrylic of this size had never been done”, states Filipe Lisboa, CEO, VISO Inc., “The project also required a lot of coordination and communication between VISO’s international teams in Germany, Portugal, Spain and Canada.”, he adds.
Refraction is a stunning addition to the art community where light uncovers that which is hidden in the shadow, gives life to the unseen and allows one to see clearly into the future…
